Asher’s Jukebox Part 181

Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? by Moby from the album “Play” (October 11, 1999)

Good old Moby! He’ s not only one of my favorite Electronic musicians of all time, but one of my first experiences with that genre as a whole. This album, “Play” was played (no pun intended) many times on long car journeys. I already talk about two other Moby tracks on the jukebox before from his third album, “Everything is Wrong”. This song, is absolutely beautiful, and gives off a melancholic vibe. Moby usually uses gospel singers in his music, and this piece is no exception. The entire song has a very melodic piano playing, and it echoes sounds of bittersweet happiness. The lyrics, while repeated many times, are super powerful, and send chills down my spine. The chorus will also hit you right in the heart, and stay with you for a long time after listening. I would really like to hear what you guys think of the piece in the comments’ section below.

Asher’s Favorites (Webtoons Edition Part 2)

Hello everyone, and welcome to part 2 of my Webtoons recommendations. I really enjoyed doing the first part, and I hope that some of you checked them out. Now, let’s start part 2!

  • Carl by Hussein Traboulsi Genres: Comedy, Science Fiction, Heartwarming, Steampunk  Started: November 5th, 2017 Total Episodes: 77 Updates every Monday and Tuesday

Carl is a very fascinating comic that I fell in love with right away. It’s about a robot psychiatrist that becomes sentient, and tries to help people out by expressing his feelings. His creator is worried about this, and tries to keep it under wraps. Unfortunately, his arch enemy finds out, and you are taken on a comedic adventure with robots, augmented humans, and crazy characters. I highly recommend this comic to everybody, and the characters will keep you reading to the end. Final Verdict 9/10 (A robotic hell of a good time!)

  • Boyfriend of the Dead by Ushio Genres: Comedy, Romance, Action, Zombies, Apocalyptic  Started: July 13th, 2017 Total Episodes: 105 Updates Every Tuesday and Friday

This is a fantastic and comedic take on the Zombie Horror genre. The world is ending, and zombies are everywhere. However, unlike other zombie stories, these creatures have kept their intelligence. Unfortunately, every time they speak, it comes out in growls. The comic focuses on one zombie that finds a girl surviving in the chaotic climate. We are then met with an amazing adventure of comedic proportions as the zombie tries to communicate and befriend the girl. If you love comedy, I guarantee that you’ll love this story. Final Verdict 9.9/10 (My first experience with webtoons and an amazing one at that!)

  • Sweet Home by Youngchan Hwang and Carnby Kim Genres: Horror, Tragedy, Mature, Despair, Psychological, Monsters  Started: January 14th, 2018 Total Episodes: 37 Updates Every Monday

Here we have an absolutely terrifying tale from the creators of Bastard. This comic is highly disturbing, and therefore recommended for mature audiences only. It’s about an anti-social high school student that has to move houses due to spoiler-heavy circumstances. Not only is this one of the best stories I’ve read in a while, but, it also is one of the best drawn. Final Verdict 10/10 (A goddamn horror masterpiece!)

Asher’s Favorite Animations (Special Post)

Hello everyone, and welcome to an extremely special post! I have been a major fan of Web Animation for my entire life, and have finally decided to share some with you. Most of these animations will be found on Youtube, with the exception of one. Now, let’s be blown away by these fantastic works of art!

  • Kaizo Trap by Guy Collins 2015 Music by Leslie Wai

I just found out about this video yesterday, and my god, it’s fantastic! The animation is essentially a loving homage to the classic rage games. If you’ve ever played “I Wanna Be The Guy” or “Cat Mario”, you’ll know exactly what’s in store for you. The movie is about a couple that gets sucked into the most punishing Video Game ever made. The boy gets kidnapped, and its up to the girl to save him. The animation is incredibly fluid, and the pulse-pounding Dubstep soundtrack really adds tension. I’m not going to ruin the ending, but let me just say, it’ll leave you in tears!

  • Me! Me! Me! by Teddyloid (feat. daoko) 2014 Warning! This Music Video contains nudity, blood, gore, and adult themes.

Me! Me! Me! is a mind-blowing music video by Japanese DJ, Teddyloid. It tells the story of a Hikikomori Otaku or “shut in”. He’s visited by a harem of busty anime chicks, and crazy stuff starts to happen. The music does a fantastic job of portraying suspense and anxiety. The piece is extremely catchy, and you’ll be humming the tune for hours on end. This video, however, isn’t for kids, as the subject matter and content is very adult.

  • MOO! by Cyriak Harris 2007 HD Version 2015 Genre: Comedic Animation

I feel like I’ve done Cyriak a major disservice for never mentioning him in any of my posts. In was you don’t know, Cyriak is a British animator whose style is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It’s usually a mix of crazy fractals and shapes with some hints of surrealism. I absolutely adore his wacky style, and binge his animations frequently. This animation, is about a war between aliens and cows. The artwork gets extremely bizarre, and it’s accompanied by an even stranger soundtrack. I highly recommend this video, as it will get you a first look at Cyriak’s humor and style.

Asher’s Anime Reviews (One Every Two Months)

Hello fellow Otakus! It’s time for another Anime review. This particular entry is very serious, and has many adult themes. Now, without any further ado, let’s begin!

Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day  Manga by Mari Okada and illustrated by Mitsu Izumi (April 4, 2012-March 2013 3 Volumes) Anime produced by Hiroyuki Shimizu, directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai,  music by Remedios, licensed in America by Aniplex of America, and written by Mari Okada (April 14, 2011- June 23, 2011 11 Episodes) Genres: Romance, Supernatural, Tragedy, Drama Rating: TV-14

Anohana is a tragic and gorgeous series that focuses on six childhood friends. In their past, one of the friends, Menma, tragically dies in an accident. The story takes place many years after the tragedy, and we see how the loss has impacted them. The leader of the friends, Jintan, has become a complete recluse, having to deal with his mother’s passing as well. He also has cut off connections with his other friends. However, he has a special power, which allows him to see Menma, although his other friends can’t. If Jintan can fulfill her wish, she can go to heaven. The other characters are; Anaru, the pretty yandere of the group that has unrequited feelings for Jintan, Menma, a cute and  lively member of the group who tragically died in an accident, Yukiatsu, the cocky and intelligent asshole of the group that acts like a bully to Jintan, Tsuruko, the shy and calculating member of the group that has a secret love interest, and Poppo, the giant with a heart of gold. The Anime is one giant roller coaster of emotions that I highly recommend to mature audiences. Be warned though, the ending will have you crying like a baby!  Final Rating 9.5/10 (Fantastic!) Also beware of looking up anything about the series, because you will be spoiled!

You can watch Anohana on Crunchyroll
