Asher’s Jukebox Part 187 (Special 2 Parter!)

Divide By Zero/ Slim Pickens Does The Right Thing And Rides The Bomb To Hell by The Offspring from the album “Days Go By” Released: June 25th, 2012 Music Video Released: 2012 Genre: Punk Rock, Alternative Rock

These are the last 2 songs from the Days Go By album. They were both made into a continuous music video, that is one of the most awesome things I’ve ever laid my eyes upon! Dexter’s powerful vocals, Noodles’ aggressive guitar skills, and Parada’s awesome drumming really transform these pieces into rock gold. This first song, “Divide By Zero”,  tells the story of a solider in a futuristic war against an army of skeletal adversaries. There’s also a blue god of war and destruction that repeatedly changes sides to cause as much bloodshed as possible. Dexter essentially boosts morale throughout the song repeating the lyrics: “I will persevere, I will resist you here, I will interfere”. The intense chorus of instruments reminds me of a power metal ballad, and it’s fantastic! However, as the mood starts to change, the lyrics also take a turn into insanity. The suggestion to divide by zero might be metaphor for trying the impossible. This is shown in epic detail as the soldier, like Slim Pickens, at the end of Dr. Strangelove, rides a bomb to destroy the enemy and himself. After impact, “Slim Pickens Does The Right Thing And Rides The Bomb To Hell” starts up. Taking place right after the solider’s “death”, he finds himself in Hell. The lyrics in this piece are mainly about chaos and the world appears to be ending. We get verses like “Dance around the fire that we once believed in”, and “If you are gonna go to hell, drink it up, you might as well”. The world is in a state of never ending anarchy, you should just stop caring and enjoy the destruction. Both of this songs are absolutely amazing, and I definitely recommend them to lovers of Rock.

Asher’s Jukebox Part 184

Hurt by Johnny Cash March 2003 From The Album: “American IV: The Man Comes Around” Genres: Acoustic Rock, Country, Alternative

This emotional piece was created by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Cash’s cover of the song moved Reznor so deeply, that it almost seemed like Cash’s version was the original. The song literally brings me to tears every time I hear it, and the lyrics pierce the soul like an emotional arrow. It also is important to know that this was one of Cash’s last songs, as he died months later. In the video, you can tell that Cash’s health is dwindling, but his deep and crooning voice shines out like a last hurrah. His excellent guitar skills are also absolutely beautiful in this song. The video also shows Cash at his prime, and tells his life story. Some of the lyrics really hit hard for me, and I’ll discuss some of them now. “Everyone I know goes away in the end”. This is extremely deep, and basically means that everyone will die at some time, and nobody’s immortal. The chorus also seems like a plea of desperation and demise, which gives the listener a shocking truth about the fragility of human life. Asher’s Jukebox Part 124

Sexualizer (feat. Flash Arnold) by Perturbator from the album “Sexualizer” 2013 (info about album from en.wikipedia.org) Are you guys ready for an incredibly amazing Electronic Dance piece? I sure hope so! I have praised Perturbator before on his powerful music, and the same can be said for this smashing track! It starts with an epic retro sound, and then the smooth guitar, drums, and other Electronic instruments start playing. The guitar is incredibly prominent in this piece, and the player puts his heart into the strumming. Near the end of the piece, we are treated with a jaw-dropping guitar solo that’s guaranteed to melt your face! I highly recommend the piece to anyone who likes an awesome Dance music. I’d love to hear what you guys thing of this piece in the comments section below.

Happy Listening 😀 AND START DANCING!
