Hello fellow art lovers! It’s Monday, and my Art Gallery is open once again! I hope you guys are ready for some awesome paintings. Now, explore to your heart’s content!
Exu by Jean-Michel Basquiat 1988 Acrylic and oil paintstick on canvas
This is a very fascinating work by the late and great Basquiat. The painting is an explosion of jagged patterns and grotesque imagery. The main focus of art piece is the strange wolf-like humanoid situated at the work’s center. It has a demonic grin and is wearing a pair of blue jeans. We also see a deamon tail to the upper left of the work. The most off-putting thing on the work is the huge mass of eyes that appear to follow the viewer around. I absolutely adore this work, and I would love to hear your opinions in the comments’ section below.
- Devix by Larry Carlson Digital chromogenic print 2011 (info about piece found on Larry Carlson’s website, larrycarlson.com
It’s time for the weekly Carlson piece! This one, in particular, is very fascinating. The setting of the work reminds me of a snowy scene. There are many blurry patterns in the painting, and the sky is an eerie grey. The bottom of the piece is a hellish red, and there are strange, demonic creatures parading around a fire. I really like to combination of light and dark colors. Tell me what you think of this work in the comments’ section below.
