Konbanwa, everyone! It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means! Yes, it’s time for us to take a look at some more fascinating creatures. Now, let’s go on a journey to the “Land of the Rising Sun”!

  • Mezu is a terrifying creature of Japanese folklore. He, along with Gozu are fearsome generals that guard the gates of hell. Mezu is depicted as a large demon with the head of a horse. Both generals have immense strength, and are able to move mountains with ease. They serve under Enma, the ruler of hell.


  • Wara ningyo are powerful objects of Japanese mythology. They’re essentially small straw dolls that come in many different shapes. The dolls are mainly used to ward off evil, and are usually found on the sides of roads.
