Asher’s Art Gallery (Mondays)

Hello fellow art lovers! It’s Monday, and my Gallery is open once again! I hope you guys are ready for some awesome paintings. Now, explore to your hearts’ content!

  • A Table of Desserts by Jan Davidsz De Heem Oil on Canvas 1640

This is a very old painting that can make viewers feel on edge. The work depicts an extravagant spread of various pastries, fruits, and pies. The arrangement of the sweets is almost overwhelming in quality, and the fetishization of food is a nice touch. If you decide to dive deeper into the piece, you will find some depictions of “Memento Mori”. Some of the food is half eaten, and this can elude the eventual end of a person’s life. I believe that the artist created this work in order to show the fragility of life. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this piece in the comments’ section below.

  • Wings of Sun by Larry Carlson 2013 digital photography (info about work from Larry Carlson’s website

Here we have another insane work by “Computer Guru”, Larry Carlson. This piece has a layering of colors, which adds a blurring effect to the female figure. She appears to be holding a glowing mandala that is radiating a trippy rainbow. The background of the work is a gorgeous blue sky with patches of purple scattered all around. The layered colors can also give off the illusion of a person in motion. I’d love to hear what you guys think of this painting in the comments’ section below.
