Konichiwa, everyone! It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means! Yes, it’s time to take a look at some more yokai. Now, let’s go on a journey to the “Land of the Rising Sun”!

  • Kotengu are horrific creatures of Japanese mythology. They’re depicted as large, predatory birds with human-like qualities. Kotengu despise humans, and love to make their lives a living hell. Despite their horrid actions, Kotengu occasionally overestimate their own intellect, which leads to their downfall in many stories.

  • Genbu is one of the four important creatures of Taoism. He resembles a turtle and snake hybrid that is very dark in color. Genbu lives in the northern sky, and covers seven of the twenty-eight Chinese constellations. He is associated with the Chinese element of water, represents the virtue of knowledge, and has control over the cold.
