Yokai Wednesdays

Konichiwa everyone! It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means! Yes, it’s time to take a look at some more mythical beasts. Now, let’s go on a journey to “The Land of the Rising Sun”!

  • Shoki is a fearsome creature of Japanese mythology, however he was first mentioned in ancient China.He’s depicted as large and ugly man with piercing eyes, and a great beard. (yokai.com) Shoki is considered to be a legendary hero that has incredible power and the ability to control demons. (yokai.com) His mere appearance is said to scare oni away, and he’s thought to control 80,000 demons. (yokai.com)


  • Nodeppo are very dangerous creatures of Japanese mythology. They resemble small animals known as Mami. (yokai.com) It’s said that when these creatures become old, they transform into this yokai. Nodeppo have the disturbing talent of swooping down from trees, latching down on people’s faces, and sucking their blood. (en.wikipedia.org) They can also shoot streams of bats out of their mouths like a gun. (yokai.com)
