Yokai Wednesdays (Every 2nd Wednesday of the month)

Konichiwa everyone! It’s Wednesday, and it’s time for a new post. Every second Wednesday of each month, I will be doing a full post on Japanese mythology. I have always loved Japanese culture, and I absolutely love Japanese Folklore. So, let’s go on a journey to the Land of The Rising Sun!

  • O_O! Sazae oni are very dangerous creatures of Japanese folklore.  They are depicted as exotic dancers, however their true form is that of a monstrous turban snail. (yokai.com) They can disguise themselves as beautiful women to lure seamen into the sea. (en.wikipedia.org) When they get too close, they get devoured. (yokai.com)

  • EEW! Gai are very disgusting creatures of Japanese folklore. They’re depicted as human-like figures with bulging stomachs and insufficient mouths and throats. (yokai.com) They’re always hungry, and whenever they try to eat, the food bursts into flames. (yokai.com) However, some Gaki can eat disgusting things such as vomit, feces , and corpses.
