Mythical Creatures From Around The World (Wednesdays)

Hello everyone! It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means! Yes it’s time to go on another mythical journey. I hope you guys are excited to see what creatures we’ll be looking at today. I’d love to hear what you guys think of this post, so be sure to leave me a comment in the comments section below. Now, let’s get started!

  • Really Bad Breath! The Catoblepas is a very interesting creature that comes from Ethiopian mythology. (en.wikipedia.org) It’s depicted as a four-legged beast with the head of a wild boar and the body of a buffalo. (en.wikipedia.org) It also has scales on its back, which protects it, and always has its head down, due to its weight. (en.wikipedia.org) Like Medusa, the Catoblepas can turn people into stone by gazing at them. (en.wikipedia.org) However, other tales of the Catoblepas have described it having poisonous breath instead of a stone-like gaze. (en.wikipedia.org)

  • Caw Caw! Yosuzume are very dangerous creatures of Japanese folklore. (yokai.com) They’re bird yokai that usually travel together, and are quite noisy. (yokai.com) Yosuzume appear at night, and swarm around people that are unfortunate enough to be walking by. (yokai.com) While they don’t cause any harm to people, it’s said that those who get caught in a Yosuzume swarm will have horrible luck, and will bring about terrible evil. (yokai.com) The only way to stop Yosuzume is to chant at night. (yokai.com)
