More Awesome Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards (Every Other Friday)

Hello fellow Duelists! It’s Friday, and you know what that means! Yes, it’s time for us to take a look at some more awesome cards. Now, let’s duel!

  • Steelswarm Sting Type: Fiend/Effect 4 stars Attribute: Dark  ATK: 1850 DEF: 0  Effect: When this card you control is sent to you Graveyard: Target 1 face-up Ritual, Fusion, or Synchro Monster on the field; destroy that target. Appearance: A metallic bee with yellow wings and a large stinger.

Steelswarms are a very fun archetype in Yu-Gi-Oh! They’re all Fiend types, and focus on overwhelming the opponent with powerful monsters. Its high attack power and amazing effect make it extremely versatile in any Fiend deck. It also helps that its effect can be used outside of battle. I highly recommend this card to dry your opponents crazy!

  • Tribe Infecting Virus Type: Aqua/Effect 4 stars ATK: 1600 DEF: 1000 Effect: Discard 1 card from your hand and declare 1 type of monster. Destroy all face-up monsters of the declared Type on the field. Appearance: A swirling embodiment of chaos and pestilence.

This chaotic card was the bane of many people’s existence when the game first began. Unfortunately, the card has been banned for many years, and for good reason too. Its effect is way too good, and you can clear your opponents field extremely easily. Nevertheless, I adore this card, and from what I hear, it’s going to be coming back to the game quite soon.

Asher’s Guilty Pleasure Songs

This is going to be embarrassing! Hello everyone, and welcome to a very special post. In the past, I have shared many of my favorite songs on Asher’s Jukebox. This is an entirely different beast! I am going to get real personal on this post, and share some of my guilty pleasure song with you. These certain songs don’t have to be widely enjoyed by all, but they are ones that I enjoy for some reason or another. Now, let the cringe begin!

  •  Scream & Shout (November 20th, 2012) by will.i.am and Britney Spears Genre: Dance-pop

Yes, I actually like a will.i.am song! The “mastermind” behind such hits as “Dirty Bit” and “Boom Boom Pow”. I think this song just works really well with both artists. The beat while repetitive, is extremely catchy, and will be in your head for days. The lyrics are complete crap, though, and you have to deal with Britney calling you a bitch for 4 minutes.

  • Pena by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band From The Album (Trout Mask Replica June 16, 1969) Genres: Avant-garde, Blues, Experimental Rock, and Art Rock

Good old Captain Beefheart! This man’s life story is incredibly fascinating, and his music is extremely experimental. This particular album is praised by many, and even the Simpsons creator, Matt Groening, states it as his favorite album of all time. I got introduced to Beefheart after looking up strange footage of a video game called Fast and Bulbous. This track, Pena, is absolutely nuts with screamed vocals, abstract imagery, and the strangest musical composition I’ve ever heard. The instruments appear to be screaming at one another, and the time signatures are completely indecipherable. Well it might not be for everyone, I absolutely adore this piece. If you are a fan of Frank Zappa, you’ll love Captain Beefheart! Posted below is the song, as well as a great documentary on the man himself.

Asher’s Anime Reviews (One Every Two Months)

Hello fellow Otakus! It’s time for another Anime review. This particular entry is very serious, and has many adult themes. Now, without any further ado, let’s begin!

Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day  Manga by Mari Okada and illustrated by Mitsu Izumi (April 4, 2012-March 2013 3 Volumes) Anime produced by Hiroyuki Shimizu, directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai,  music by Remedios, licensed in America by Aniplex of America, and written by Mari Okada (April 14, 2011- June 23, 2011 11 Episodes) Genres: Romance, Supernatural, Tragedy, Drama Rating: TV-14

Anohana is a tragic and gorgeous series that focuses on six childhood friends. In their past, one of the friends, Menma, tragically dies in an accident. The story takes place many years after the tragedy, and we see how the loss has impacted them. The leader of the friends, Jintan, has become a complete recluse, having to deal with his mother’s passing as well. He also has cut off connections with his other friends. However, he has a special power, which allows him to see Menma, although his other friends can’t. If Jintan can fulfill her wish, she can go to heaven. The other characters are; Anaru, the pretty yandere of the group that has unrequited feelings for Jintan, Menma, a cute and  lively member of the group who tragically died in an accident, Yukiatsu, the cocky and intelligent asshole of the group that acts like a bully to Jintan, Tsuruko, the shy and calculating member of the group that has a secret love interest, and Poppo, the giant with a heart of gold. The Anime is one giant roller coaster of emotions that I highly recommend to mature audiences. Be warned though, the ending will have you crying like a baby!  Final Rating 9.5/10 (Fantastic!) Also beware of looking up anything about the series, because you will be spoiled!

You can watch Anohana on Crunchyroll

Hall Of Champions: Fantastic Comic Book Characters (Every Other Tuesday)

Hello fellow Comic Book Fans! It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means! Yes, it’s time for us to take another look at some awesome characters. Now, let’s begin!

  • Korvac Real Name: Michael Korvac Status: Villain/Possible Destroyer of Worlds Ht: 6’3” Weight: 230 lbs Publisher: Marvel First Appeared: Giant-Size Defenders #3 (January 1st, 1975) Powers/Abilities: Manipulation of cosmic energy, time travel, can absorb all forms of energy, telekinesis, telepathy, neigh invulnerability

Michael was an extremely talented computer technician living in the 31st century. He helped out the Badoon, a species of advanced reptilian beings, invade Earth’s solar system. One faithful day, upon collapsing from exhaustion, the Badoon amputated his lower body, and transformed him into a cyborg. Enraged by this, Korvac turned against his superiors, and killed them. His newfound abilities made him an incredibly dangerous force. His most famous feat is absorbing the power of Galactus’ spaceship, and transforming into a god-like entity. He was finally destroyed by Hazmat, who blasted him apart with an anti-matter wave.

  • Hazmat Real Name: Jennifer Takeda Status: Hero and member of the Avengers Publisher: Marvel  First Appeared: Avengers Academy #1 (August 1st, 2010) Powers/Abilities:  Produces toxic substances and radiation from her body, immune to toxins, can explode after absorbing enough radiation (this isn’t lethal to her), anti-matter blasts, can generate EMP

Jennifer was an ordinary teenager, until she almost killed her boyfriend with a kiss. The discovery of her toxic powers forced Jennifer to be confined to a hazmat suit. This also caused her personality to become angry and standoffish. After being invited to the Avengers Academy, Jennifer doesn’t get along with many of the others, until she strikes a relationship with the metallic Mettle. This unfortunately doesn’t last, as Mettle sacrifices himself to save her in a battle with the villainous Arcade. During the Avengers Arena arc, Hazmat learns to fully control her powers, and doesn’t need the containment suit to protect her anymore. Fueled with rage and sadness, Hazmat kills Arcade and that’s the last that we hear of her for the time being. (A very interesting character that I hope will get her own movie in the future). (Fun fact: Hazmat is actually considered to be a tsundere, someone who is cold upon introduction, but slowly starts to warm up as the story progresses).

Asher’s Art Gallery (Every Other Monday)

Hello fellow art lovers! It’s Monday, and my Gallery is open once again! I hope you guys are ready for some awesome pieces. Now, have fun exploring my Gallery!

  • A Sunday on La Grande Jatte 1884-1866 by Georges Seurat Oil on canvas

This is a fantastic work by “French Painter”, Seurat. It belong to a genre of painting known as Pointillism. The genre incorporates applying color to the piece in the form of tiny dots. The great attention to detail is shown by the use of multiple colors. It also changes appearance depending on how you view it. The painting is an outdoor scene with many rich people, a blue ocean, various umbrellas, and gorgeous, green grass. It also has a bit of a creepy feeling, as the people in the piece don’t have facial features. Nevertheless, I adore this work, and would love to hear your opinions in the comments’ section below.

  • Techu-Anpu by Jean-Michel Basquiat one of the Thirty-two Drawings of The Daros Suite 1982-83 Acrylic, oil paintstick, pastel, crayon, charcoal, and pencil on paper

This is a great work by “Master Surrealist”, Basquiat. It has many of his signature quirks, like repeated words, strange machines, and bizarre faces. There’s also a unicorn near the center of the piece. I have always loved Basquiat’s randomness, and this piece is definitely no exception. Tell me what you think of it in the comments’ section below.
